The E-Learning Portal www.bodhidroom.idolgu.org which is the first of its kind in the entire North East region has been developed solely by the faculty members, Computer Science of the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University without any help from commercial developers.
Distance Education has become an important buzzword in our country today. Many young students have found this mode of learning suitable for realizing their dreams of employment and social recognition. In the field of education, this form of learning is known as the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system.
Within this ODL system, which aim at reaching out to those who were formerly deprived of access to higher education for various reasons, the contribution of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has been most important. The Institute of Distance and Open Learning, Gauhati University, which has been the pioneering institution offering the advantages of ODL in Assam and its sister states, has now taken an important step forward by launching its portal for E-Learning. This portal, thoughtfully named ‘Bodhidroom’, makes possible an “Integrated Knowledge Environment” (as its slogan says). Now the distance learners of Gauhati University will be able to make use of Internet facilities in their localities to enhance their learning with the help of www.bodhidroom.idolgu.org
